Beyra Rose 2022

Region: DOC BEIRA INTERIOR

Grape varieties: Tinta Roriz / Tempranillo (100%)

Winemaker: Rui Roboredo Madeira

Vinification: Hand-picked grapes, reception with full destemming, whole-cluster pressed, skins remain in contact with the juice for a very short period, fermentation at 16-17 ºC using native yeasts.

 

Vineyard: Organically grown grapes from vineyards planted in the plateau area of Beira Interior wine region, at an average altitude of 750 meters, planted in schist soils.The vineyards are all of Tempranillo (Tinta Roriz) variety that is perfectly adapted to environmental and climatic characteristics created by the altitude.

Notes: Intense aroma with hints of strawberries, blueberries and jam. Smooth on the mouth with a long flavorsome finish.

Suggested Serving Temp: 55ºF

Food Pairing: Great on its own or with Mediterranean cuisine

Ameal Loureiro 2021
 

 

Region: VINHO VERDE - LIMA SUB-REGION

Grape varieties: Loureiro

Winemaker: José Luís Moreira da Silva

Soil: Granitic

VINEYARD: Quinta do Ameal in the Lima Valley

 

VINIFICATION: Manual harvest, pneumatic pressing of whole grapes. Cold decanting of the must for 48 hours. Fermentation at a controlled temperature 10 – 15ºC for 12 to 15 days.

In contact with the lees for about 7 months in stainless steel vats at a controlled temperature.

Notes: Intense, dominated by the citrus fruits and the floral aromas characteristic of the Loureiro grape variety. Vibrant and balanced with a refreshing acidity that anticipates a good evolution.

Suggested Serving Temp: 50°F-54°F

Food Pairing: Sea food, grilled Salted Cod, goat cheeses.

Taboadella Alfrocheiro 2019

 

Region: DOC Dao

Grape varieties: Alfrocheiro, known as the “Tinta Francesa de Viseu” (equal to French red grape variety from Viseu)

Vineyard: Silvã de Cima, Castendo. Parcelas N. 6 e N. 8

Winemaker: Jorge Alves & Rodrigo Costa.

Soil: Granitic, Sandy

 

Vinification: 30% in 500 liters new french oak barrels and 70% in old oak barrels for 9 months.

 

Notes: On the nose as an inviting walk through the woods with wild berries and subtle notes of pine. its has body and structure along with a good presence of ripe fruit, but not lush or jammy. Finishing with a subtle oak spice note. This wine as fantastic balance and finesse.

Suggested Serving Temp: 56ºF and 60ºF

Food Pairing: Miscaros (wild mushroom) rice, made with salpicao sausage, or because this mushroom grows in the pine forests of Dao, wild mushroom risotto can do. Roasted veal.

 

 

Terras Do Demo 2021

 

Region: Távora-Varosa

Grape varieties: Malvasia-Fina

Vineyard: The characteristics of the soil are granitic with sandy and clay properties, poor in limestone and sometimes with schist, having a low capacity to retain water. This allows for the production of fresh wines with high acidity, perfect for making sparkling wines.

Vinification: Classic Method or VEQPRD (high quality sparkling wine from demarcated region) Bica sistem ( skins and stems removed before fermentation). Fermented at controlled low temperatures. Second fementation in bottle with manual remuage and cold disgorgement.

 

Notes: Shows a clean color, on the nose it has a very floral character. Fine but persistent bubble. initially young fruit aromas and a slight white raisin touch evolving to a clean fresh and minerally finish

Suggested Serving Temp: 45° to 50°

Food Pairing: sea food, oysters, white meat.

Morgado Do Quintão Clarete 2021

 

Region: Algarve

Grape varieties: 100% Negra Mole from 40+ year old vines. Organically farmed (non-certified)

Winemaker: Joana Macanita

Soil: The soil here is known as arenitos: iron-rich sandy loess mixed with limestone.

 

Vineyard: The estate is home to a 7-ha vineyard located 261 ft above sea level in DOC Lagoa (Algarve). The vines are only 5 miles from the Atlantic Ocean’s cool maritime influence yet warmed by the Levante winds from Africa. Sunny Algarve is known for exceptional ripening conditions, with 3000 to 3500 daylight hours per year.

 

Notes: Ruby red core with purple hues running throughout. Medium bodied wine, showing red fruit aromas followed by floral hints and spices. This wine is showing great complexity but in a superb harmony, its gentle extraction lends freshness making it a very savory wine and also very aprochable.

Suggested Serving Temp: 58-60ºF you can also try it chilled.

Food Pairing: "Pairs well with Mediterranean cuisine including falafel with hummus, lamb gyro with tzatziki, doner kebab as well as traditional Feijoada, a rich black bean stew with beef and pork and bifanas, marinated pork cutlet sandwiches." I say perfect for grilled sardines and corn bread.

Santiago Alvarinho Vinha do Chapim 2020

 

Region: Vinhos Verdes – Sub-Region of Monção and Melgaço

Grape varieties: 100% Alvarinho

Winemaker: Joana Santiago

Soil: 7,5 ha. Clay over granite

 

Vineyard: Quinta do Santiago - Vinha do Chapim (single vineyard)

Vinification: Manual Harvest from single parcel. Soft pressing and natural decantation. Slow fermentation with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel vat. Aging for 9 months on the fine lees.

 

Notes: Citrine appearance. Elegant and complex, showing wet stones vegetable and citrus notes and orange blossom. Body Rich, tension and persistence with the freshness and minerality.

Suggested Serving Temp: 48ºF and 52ºF

Food Pairing: Starters, salads, sea fruits, shellfish, fish, Asian cuisine, white meat and cheeses. In other words, very versatile.
