Pinha Reserva Red 2017

 

Region: Dão.

Grape varieties: Touriga Naional, Alfrocheiro and Tinta-Roriz.

Vineyard: Altitude between 400-600m. Influenced by the rivers Dão and Mondego. It has hot and dry Summers and cold Winters.

Winemaker: Carlos Lucas.

Soil: Granitic Soil with large rocky outcrops.

Vinification: Harvest by hand. Total destemming. Fermentation in stainless steel vats with long maceration and soft reassembly to extract enough color and aroma. Natural decanting in stainless steel vats. The fermentation is finished in used French oak barrels of 225L where remains for 9 months until bottling.

Notes: This poised wine is made from Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz and Alfrocheiro. While the black fruits are dense, they are also elegant, yielding a rich wine that's balanced by bright acidity. Drink from 2022. — Roger Voss 94 Pts WE.

Suggested Serving Temp: 60º to 65ºC

Food Pairing: Game dishes, mince pudding and roasted fish.

Titular Dao White 2022

Region: Dão.
Grape varieties: Encruzado, Malvasia Fina e Bical.
Winemaker: Carla Rodrigues.
Vineyard: Located in the heart of the Dão Region, it is surrounded by mountainous massifs such as Serra da Estrela and Caramulo. This location allows for excellent temperature variations, promoting the optimal ripening of grapes, leading to slow maturation and the production of wines with rich aromas and good acidity.
Soil: Granite.
Vinification: Manual Harvest in boxes of 15 KG. Grapes destemmed in pneumatic press and cold static decanting. Total alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel vats at controlled temperature.
Notes: Wine with good acidity, with fresh and fruity aromas. In the mouth it is fresh with some structure and volume.
Suggested Serving Temp: Serve between 50°F and 55°F.
Food Pairing: Fish, seafood, salads, or as an appetizer.

Quinta De Saes Red 2018


Region: Dão.

Grape varieties: 25% Touriga Naçional, 25% Alfrocheiro, 25% Jaen, 25% Tinta Pinheira.

Winemaker: Alvaro & Maria Castro.

Vineyard: Located in the northern part of the Dão, in Northern Central Portugal. The plots for this vineyard are planted at 500m (1640 ft) elevation. The Dao has a temperate continental climate, protected from the cold winds of the Atlantic by the Luso Mountains, from the warm winds of Extremadura to the west by the Sierra da Estrela, and from the arid heat of the Douro by the Serra do Caramulo. Average temperature in the growing season is 57F (14C). Rainfall is 26 inches per annum, with no irrigation.

Soil: Granit.

Vinification: This wine is macerated for 10 days, cold soak, to maximize aromatic extraction. Wild yeast fermentation in stainless fermentation vats, then aged for 18 months in 2nd and 3rd use large format French oak. Fined and filtered

Notes: On the nose, bright fresh cherry, pomegranate, candied violet, rose petal and flint. On the palate, elegant and fresh, with floral and spice notes wrapped around a core of fresh cherry fruit. Finishes long, with mouthwatering acidity and a consistent beam of minerality through the finish.

Suggested Serving Temp: 60ºF.

Food Pairing: The fresh red fruit and delicate aromatics of the Quinta de Saes Tinto pair very well with roast poultry and game. Mushrooms and other umami-laden dishes are also fine pairs.

 

 

Vigno Granite Terroir Blend Red 2019

 

Region: Dão.

Grape varieties: Touriga Nacional, Alfrocheiro, Baga, Bastardo, Jaen, Rufete, Tinta-Roriz.

Winemaker: Elisa Freire Lobo.

Vineyard: Grazed by Bordaleiras sheep, which are typical of the mountainous Serra da Estrela where these vineyards lie at an elevation between 560-600 meters. The sheep help control grass growth during wet months as well as adding essential natural fertilizer to the vineyards. Grasses and legumes are planted and encouraged the rest of the year as cover crops that improve the soil structure, increase fertility and help better manage the nutrients and limited water available in this poor, granitic soil.

Soil: Granite/Clay.

Vinification: Aged in bottle before release, Barrel Aged, Dry Farmed, Estate grown grapes, Hand harvested, Indigenous yeast fermented, Organically Grown Grapes, Unfined & Unfiltered.

Notes: Shows deep dark cherry fruit with ripe tannins and good freshness.

Suggested Serving Temp: 60°F.

Food Pairing: This wine is very lively but rich so it will go well with wild Mushroom Risotto, alheira, roast lamb.

Taboadella Encruzado 2021


 

Region: Dão.

Grape varieties: Touriga Nacional, Alfrocheiro, Baga, Bastardo, Jaen, Rufete, Tinta-Roriz.

Fonte Do Ouro Touriga Nacional Red 2017

 

Region: Dão.

Grape varieties: Touriga Nacional.

Winemaker: Nuno Cancela De Abreu.

Winery: Sociedade Agrícola Boas Quintas was born in the year of 1991, in the recognized wine region of Dão. It all began when Nuno Cancela de Abreu, representative of the 4th generation of a family with farming and winemaking tradition of more than 130 years. In 2016 was awarded winery of the year by Grandes Escolhas.

Soil: Granite.

Vinification: Skin contact at 53°F for 3 days to aromatically enrich the wine. Long fermentation with gentle maceration, in order to extract the maximum potential from these magnificent grape varieties. After malolatic fermentation, the wine stays in stainless steel tanks followed by 18 months in French oak.

Notes: Deep ruby color. Dinstinctive aromas of the Touriga Nacional grape, floral hints of violet and bergamot, ripe blackcurrant combined with the elegance of Allier oak. Robust yet smooth tannins, perfectly complemented by berry fruit flavors with great balance and complexity.

Food Pairing: Goes well with game, roasted red meat.
