This heat-loving crop should be sown after all danger of frost has passed and the soil is warm. Black Eyed Beans are extremely drought tolerant, so excessive watering should be avoided. The first domestication probably occurred in West Africa, but it is widely consumed around the globe in more than one variety. In Portugal, Black Eyed Beans (also black-eyed peas or goat peas, among other designations) are most commonly used in codfish or tuna salads.
