Alheira has a unique history: it was created by the Jewish community during the Inquisition to conceal their identity. Made with various meats, bread, and spices, the sausage disguised whether it was kosher, allowing it to be shared safely with neighbors.

Today, Alheira remains a Portuguese delicacy, made with traditional methods and enjoyed by people of all backgrounds as a flavorful and historic culinary experience.
