Handcrafted Manta de Trapo Alentejanas - Pattern 3

The history of the Manta de Trapo dates back to the 16th century, when it was created as a utilitarian textile for everyday use by rural families in the Alentejo region. At that time, the textile was made from scrap fabrics, such as old clothing and household linens, which were cut into small pieces and sewn together by hand to create a larger piece of cloth.

Over time, the Manta de Trapo evolved from a practical textile into a decorative one, as artisans began to incorporate colorful designs and patterns into their work. The textiles were often used as bedspreads, tablecloths, or wall hangings, and were highly valued for their durability and unique aesthetic.
