Santa Maria was the only Azores island without a cheese factory until recently, but "Queijaria Ilha Santa Maria" has become the first one. They added the island's characteristic chimney to their brand's image. The factory successfully created unique cured sheep's milk and cow's milk cheeses through persistent efforts and partnership measures taken by ARCOA and the Regional Government of the Azores to enhance sheep farming's performance and competitiveness. The factory is currently producing cow and sheep cheese.
