Job Description
The Dishwasher supports the daily operations of Portugalia Marketplace by maintaining a clean, sanitary, and organized dishwashing and kitchen support area. This role is responsible for washing and sanitizing dishes, cookware, utensils, and equipment; maintaining cleanliness throughout assigned work areas; and helping the kitchen team operate safely and efficiently. The ideal candidate is dependable, hardworking, and comfortable working in a fast-paced food service environment.
Key Department Responsibilities
· Wash, rinse, and sanitize dishes, pots, pans, utensils, trays, and kitchen equipment according to food safety standards.
· Operate and maintain dish washing equipment safely and correctly, including proper chemical and temperature checks.
· Keep the dishwashing station, sinks, floors, drains, racks, and surrounding work areas clean, organized, and free of hazards.
· Return clean dishes, cookware, and equipment to their designated storage areas promptly.
· Remove trash, recycling, and food waste and maintain waste areas according to department procedures.
· Assist with general kitchen cleaning, including sweeping, mopping, wiping surfaces, and cleaning equipment as assigned.
· Follow proper procedures for handling chemicals, cleaning supplies, and food-contact surfaces.
· Communicate promptly with kitchen staff and supervisors regarding broken equipment, low supplies, safety concerns.
· Support kitchen and prepared-food operations with basic cleaning, organization, and other duties as assigned.
· Maintain a reliable pace during busy periods while prioritizing cleanliness, safety, and teamwork.
Qualifications
· Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen or food service environment.
· Ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive physical tasks, including bending, reaching, lifting, and carrying.
· Ability to safely lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
· Dependable attendance, punctuality, and willingness to work as part of a team.
· Ability to follow sanitation, safety, and cleaning procedures consistently.
· Availability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, evenings, and holidays as needed.
Preferred
· Previous dishwashing, kitchen, restaurant, grocery, or food service experience.
· Knowledge of basic food safety and sanitation practices.
· Experience using a commercial dishwashing machine.
· Portuguese language skills are a plus but not required.
