Job Description
The Cashier serves as the final impression of the Portugalia Marketplace experience. This role blends accuracy, efficiency, and hospitality to ensure every guest leaves feeling welcomed, valued, and connected to Portuguese culture.
Cashiers are brand ambassadors — delivering warm service, maintaining front-end excellence, and supporting store operations while upholding the Marketplace’s standards of authenticity, quality, and community.
Key Responsibilities
• Provide friendly, professional, and culturally welcoming customer service at checkout
• Accurately process transactions including cash, credit, gift cards, and online order pickups
• Answer customer questions about products, promotions, and store departments
• Promote weekly specials, loyalty programs, and featured Portuguese products
• Maintain a clean, organized, and fully stocked front-end area
• Assist with bagging groceries carefully, especially fragile imported goods and specialty items
• Support café and deli coordination for smooth checkout flow
• Monitor and maintain front-end inventory (bags, receipt paper, POS supplies)
• Handle returns and exchanges in accordance with company policy
• Collaborate with leadership to ensure efficient flow during peak seasons and holidays
• Uphold company standards for hospitality, accuracy, and professionalism
Qualifications
• Retail or cashier experience preferred
• Strong customer service and communication skills
• Basic math and cash handling accuracy
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 30 lbs
• Flexible availability, including weekends and holidays
Preferred
• Portuguese language skills
• Familiarity with Portuguese products and cuisine
• Specialty grocery or hospitality experience
• Experience with POS systems
